Billboards battle successful

Billboards by Ivy Church St Werburghs

A long running community campaign to remove billboards in St Werburghs has scored another victory as the three billboards at the corner of Ashley Hill and Sevier Street, in front of the Ivy Church, were removed.

Cllr Jon Rogers (Ashley, Liberal Democrat) says:

"This is great news. When the campaign started in January 2004 there were thirteen billboards in St Werburghs. Now there are eight. The campaign will continue until all the billboards are removed. They blight this residential area and cause distractions for drivers.

"Well done to the residents, campaigners and the officers who have been helping make this happen! A particular thanks to the Lord Mayor who set us on the right track for a solution. It does show what a community can achieve when we are determined and stick at it.

"Thanks also to Children's Scrapstore, the owners of the site, for removing permission for the boards. I am sure they will be looking for ideas for landscaping the site in due course."
