Barbara Janke Elected Leader of Bristol Liberal Democrats
This evening the Liberal Democrat group elected Barbara Janke as their Leader. Simon Cook has been elected as the Deputy Leader.
Barbara Janke said, “I am obviously delighted that the Liberal Democrat councillors have elected me as their leader.
“I look forward to leading the Liberal Democrats into the next elections in 2009 and delivering a Lib Dem majority
“The past 12 months has seen a Labour and Tory collaboration which continues to bring indecision, obfuscation and failure to the citizens of Bristol.
“We must bring change to the city and I am relishing the challenge of leading not only this group but also, in the future, the administration of the City Council.
“I would like to thank Steve Comer for the work that he has done for the Liberal Democrat group. Steve has a full time job and has given up a huge amount of time in the serving the group over the last 12 months.”
Steve Comer commented, “It has been a privilege to served the group over the last year. I will of course be working hard to get a majority for the Lib Dems in Bristol in 2009”
